Preventing malaria

Preventing malaria is a cornerstone of malaria control activities and is an NMCC priority. Several malaria prevention strategies are currently recommended and implemented in Zambia. Under the umbrella of integrated vector management (IVM), the main transmission prevention strategies are use of insecticide-treated net (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS). For the prevention of malaria during pregnancy, both use of ITNs and intermittent preventive treatment (IPT) are promoted.
